This area covering 17,772 hectares was declared a natural park by the Government of Valencia
on 15 January 2002. The natural park forms part of a series of mountains in the foothills of the
Iberian Mountain Range covering an area of approximately 60,000 hectares that separates the
basins of the river Palancia to the north and the river Turia to the south. Due to its closeness to
the city of Valencia, around 20 km, it is considered to be its main green lung.
